GRINTECH research in the media

Press interest in cooperation project on real-time diagnostics with new endoscope
At the beginning of January, a team from Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) visited GRINTECH to find out about a joint research collaboration between us, the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT), Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Jena University Hospital (UKJ). Specifically, it was about a project for real-time diagnostics and therapy of tumor cells.
We are proud to be part of this interdisciplinary Jena research team for real-time diagnostics of cancer cells together with our colleagues. Together, we have developed a new type of endoscope that can reliably distinguish between healthy and tumorous tissue during tumor operations, virtually “live”. Using multimodal optical imaging and AI evaluation, chemical and structural tissue information can be recorded and interpreted by the surgeon. The system is supplemented by an integrated femtosecond laser that precisely ablates tumor regions with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. This represents a major step towards safer, more effective operations and fewer follow-up procedures.
Several reports on this research project were broadcast on MDR television, MDR radio and in the local press.
The results were also published in Science Advances at the end of 2024:
